What you didn’t know about
Health and Medical Insurance
Why get covered?
You insure your home, your car, your pets - isn't your health important
too?
Private health insurance (also known as private medical insurance) is all
about peace of mind and the reassurance of knowing you’ll get the
treatment you need, when you need it and at the best hospitals.
It’s designed to cover the cost of surgery, medical specialists,
accommodation and nursing for treatment at either a private hospital or in
a private ward of an NHS hospital.
It’s one less thing to worry about and means you can be confident that you
and your loved ones will be back on your feet as quick as possible,
without the concern of NHS waiting lists.
Health insurance was traditionally a luxury item, just for the wealthy –
that’s no longer the case. there are policies to suit most needs and
budgets; after all, don’t you deserve to be well cared for without having
to wait?
There are some very important factors we need to consider when considering
Health and Medical Insurance.
First and foremost, should you explore the possibilities; many policies
will include your family as a whole. However the downside to such advice
is that some employers offer a simple health insurance that just includes
the one individual. Unless you are living alone then it is beneficial to
pay the small increased premium to get the better family policy.
Statistically, we will require some form of
hospital treatment once every five years, however we all appreciate that
life is not so structured.
In the event of you requiring treatment, Medical Insurance
should provide you with the choice of where and when you have treatment –
whilst avoiding any waiting lists.
The importance of medical insurance in this day and age
cannot be overstated. Life can be unpredictable and accidents can happen
at any time, anywhere. At Essential Health, we do not wish for anybody to
suffer such misfortune. Rather, we offer medical insurance to cover for
such disasters, should they happen.
As with any insurance plan, you’ll pay a monthly fee, or optionally an
annual payment. Then, should a situation occur that requires a payment for
health related services, the insurance policy will pay out to cover those
expenses.
To help understand the areas covered under Health and Medical Insurance, I
thought it prudent to check out from the insurance companies themselves,
and to determine which categories receive the most claims.
After studying the Health and Medical Insurance annual reports it is clear
which are the major categories for payouts:
Dentistry
Opticians
Physiotherapy
Osteopathy
Chiropractic
Acupuncture
Homeopathy
Chiropody
Followed closely by consultations, hospital stays, day care, respite and
new babies.
It is to be expected that many people were not aware that these categories
would ever be involved with health insurance payouts… Admitting this also,
they would have preferred to have accepted a speedier private health care;
than the governments own health care system.
Private health care brings forward ‘diagnosis and cure’ from months and
years to weeks and days.
Private health care often considered the service for the wealthy; can now
be given a new lease of life as often the monthly premiums are smaller
than expected.
It is not until you are ill that you can put a price on ‘health care’.
When you are healthy the last concern of yours is to pay money for medical
insurance. Yet we may squander our money on other items that pale into
insignificance when we consider how devastated we’d become when we could
have our illness treated and cured within days.
If you are looking to purchase a medical insurance contract, there are a
number of features you should look at for. Try not to focus too much on
price to start with, ask yourself why you are interested in medical
insurance:
* Are you concerned about government waiting lists ?
* Are you concerned about MRSA and similar hospital infections ?
* Has a family member recently suffered an illness or injury ?
* Is there a specific hospital or clinic you would like to access ?
* Does the idea of Consultant and Hospital choice appeal to you ?
* Are you looking for a 'safety net' policy - just in case ?
Answering yes to these questions may mean
you need to investigate a Health and Medical Insurance plan.
